Who uses DATING services MORE? Men or women?
I ask because whenever I see ads for dating services, both on TV and the Internet (especially the Internet) they ALWAYS show cute or hot women.
They use attractive women to advertising dating services, so they must be trying to attract MEN.
If they are seeking MEN, this would emply that a lot of WOMEN are already using these services. IS this true?
I would think women would be less likely to use these services because its very easy for women to meet men. They basically just have to leave their house.
I think the concept is to attract both sexes; though I suspect men use them more than women based on some of the aforementioned theories (women are approached much more often than men, making a dating service less useful). Men are lured by television ads featuring women because men are attracted to a service that has lots of women using it and such advertisement gives that impression. Women may be attracted by the same ad because they would be more assured that other women use it, and thus men are attracted to it, also women may find it assuring that other women are using it (women are more community minded as opposed to men who are competitive, at least so the stereotype goes).
My guess as to why internet advertising tends to show you the opposite sex is because of targeted advertising. Same concept as Google advertising. You log into Myspace.com or Yahoo! and have already identified yourself as male or female; so the advertisers will provide advertising based on the opposite sex. I don’t know if that’s true everywhere, but I always see ads for Yahoo! personals featuring women, so that partly shores up my guess.
good point my brother women dont need to seek, their are seeke’d all the time

Actually, men have generally used those services more than women. I remember reading about a call-in service in which men outnumbered women by two to one.

No, I think men are their main customers, and that is why they are trying to lure them to their particular service with pictures of hot women. Whenever you look through the singles section in the newspaper, there are always more men and if you sign up on a dating site, the women will get lots of emails and the men hardly any.

You don’t mean the midnight television ads, I hope… lol. It doesn’t sound like you’re looking into the normal dating site range. I think these ads are a farce and they’re fake. They advertize sex, but at least you’ll know what you’re getting into.
Regular dating services are in fact more used by men than women. And by used I mean ‘used’. You don’t have to do much as a woman to literally get hundreds and hundreds of reactions. The reason why I stopped using one is because nobody cares about how old they are when they react to you. Men in their 40’s and 50’s have no shame. Younger guys often register because they simply want sex. They lie in their profiles to get it. If I were looking for sex, I’d be on a sex dating site, not a site that tries to match people for steady relationships. The whole dating site thing is simply not attractive for women that want a steady relationship. It personally gave me the creeps.
