when people began farming what was the greatest benefit of this new technology? i need help with my homework.

Farming allowed people to live in one place permanently. All people up to that point had been nomadic, living in one place until the forage and game were gone, then moving somewhere else to let the first place recover.

This allowed people to build permanent structures to live in, to create small governments and laws and so forth, to ‘own’ land.

Farming also created ‘wealth’. Not everyone had to farm, so the tribe could have craftsmen, artisans, even artists. This led to the growth of technology. Carpenters learned to build homes, potters and basketmakers learned new tricks to make better products. Written language came into being, it wasn’t needed for hunter-gatherer societies. Music and poetry, etc., also began to be developed.

The greatest benefit was the fact that tribes, families could now stay in one place and basic technology started to develop. People also separated into job classification such as farmer, builder, potter, herdsman etc. Guilds formed to perform these, now specialized tasks and a barter system developed to "pay" different people for their expertise by exchanging goods and services for products, so an economy developed. People who now were tied to their specialty needed protection from invading tribes so armies were developed, and people who acquired more "wealth" became the protectorate of the people, overlords etc. So in essence a "society" started, class consciousness, crime, and all the other benefits and ills of our present day society had its roots because people wanted to stay in one place.
