The British navy conducted equally effective blockades, on a much wider scale, during the Napoleonic Wars and the War of 1812.

There was no connection to the US entry into the war.In fact, had the Allies known how seriously the blockade was effecting Germany, particularly on the Home Front, they would have realized that American entry was not necessary to win the war; Germany was forced into surrender by the effects of the naval blockade, as is made clear in Ludendorff&#039;s memoirs.&lt;br&gt;&lt;b&gt;References : &lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;</description>
